Our initial focus was to create an
“industrial estate” to support agribusiness developments which create jobs and provide support for smallholder growers. The focus is on high-value exports.

This initiative stemmed from a collaborative effort with the late Member, Hon Roy Biyama who provided temporary housing, land and run down buildings to facilitate a low-cost, rapid hub start-up:

This hub was launched in 2021 as an agribusiness initiative with both a rubber proof-of-concept, vanilla model farm and network of out growers. Tapped rubber is now being purchased from growers to promote their interest in maintaining a regular supply and vanilla seedlings are being inter-planted among established rubber trees to boost grower incomes.

PNG Sustainable Development Program (SDP) complements and supplements the Fly River Provincial Government’s efforts to provide lasting benefits for the people of Western Province. But rather than giving handouts, SDP believes partnerships with active community participation are the key to a successful project.

In March 2024, the PNG Sustainable Development Program (SDP) and its education partner, the Kokoda Track Foundation, celebrated the graduations of hundreds of students across Western Province. Since 2019, five second-chance FODE Colleges and Satellite hubs have been established across the Western Province as part of SDP’s education program.

In 2022 we commenced supporting the Morehead community with regular health patrols as a pre-cursor to this hub development which is being facilitated by strong community support.
