Remote Station at Lake Murray gets new classrooms

The New FODE classroom frames being set up.

Local carpenters and youths engaged through the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) program working on the new classroom building.
At the remote station of Boboa in Lake Murray, Western Province, progress is being made for 210 students enrolled in our Flexible Open and Distance Education (FODE) program.
Two classrooms and two dormitories are currently being constructed by local carpenters and youth engaged through our Youth Empowerment Scheme program.
This means students will no longer rely on borrowed spaces at the local primary school. It also brings opportunity, skills development, and a stronger future, offering a second chance at education for the students who eagerly await its completion.
“I’m one of the pioneer FODE students who started in 2023, learning in Boboa Primary School facilities and I’m very thankful to SDP for supporting and helping the community.” said FODE student, Justina Ambrose.
Construction is expected to be completed before the end of year. Once completed, it will provide students with a dedicated space to learn for the Boboa community.
Our FODE program creates access to second chance secondary schooling for Grades 7-12 across Western Province. The program offers free, high-quality learning opportunities for early school leavers, promoting pathways into tertiary education for teaching and nursing at the SDP-funded Balimo College. In 2025 we’ve seen a further 50% increase in student enrolments from 1,316 students in 2024 to 1,968.
