Severemabu village welcomes health patrol team for the first time!

For the first time ever, an SDP health patrol team reached Severemabu, a remote Kiwai village in Western Province. This marks a key milestone under the Gutpela Community Strategy 2025–2030.

Our Health Services team completed its first-ever health patrol to Severemabu Village, located in the remote Kiwai LLG of the South Fly District. This marks a historic outreach, as it is the first time a Kiwai village has received direct services from an SDP health patrol team.

On March 05, a dedicated team comprising clinical and awareness staff provided crucial health services to the community, which had been without a functioning health facility for many years. For over three days, our clinical team provided essential medical services, treating multiple health issues and conducting maternal and child healthcare consultations.

Severemabu’s old aid post has long been inactive, leaving the village with little to no access to basic healthcare. The patrol team set up operations at the local community learning center and conducted outpatient clinics, antenatal care, family planning, and a well-baby clinic.

A total of 109 patients were treated for general health concerns, including minor aches and injuries, while 108 children received care at the Well Baby Clinic. The team also noted 20 cases of malnutrition among children and called for more awareness and regular visits every six weeks to improve nutrition outcomes.

In addition, the patrol team conducted health awareness sessions focusing on hygiene, nutrition, and the importance of maternal care. The team also highlighted the need for improved sanitation, hygiene, and water infrastructure in the community.

The health patrol to Severemabu is part of SDP’s Gutpela Community Strategy 2025–2030, aiming to improve healthcare access and outcomes across Western Province.
