Western Provincial Government launches 5-Year Development Plan

Western Province Governor Hon. Taboi Awi Yoto, Chief Justice Sir Gibuna Gibbs Salika, Provincial Administrator Mr. Robert Alphonse Kaiyun, and Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Works and Highways Hon. Solan Mirisim, SDP CEO Lesieli Taviri and other distinguished guests at the Daru Oval after the launch of the development plan.

Congratulations to the Western Provincial Government on the launch of the WP Integrated Development Plan 2023-2027, including the four districts. Provincial Governor Hon Taboi Awi Yoto affirmed his vision for a “healthy, educated people with food on the table and money in their pocket”.

Our SDP Chairman, Peter Graham, welcomed the forward thinking. “SDP’s plan over the next five years is to complement the plans”, he said.

Since 2019, SDP has expanded its aerial health patrol teams from one to twelve, serving 74 communities. Additionally, a 12-bed hospital will open in Morehead in March. These, together with other initiatives, have seen the province climb from 19th place to 10th on the National Department of Health Index.

With investments in education, SDP will enrol its first 40 students in our Balimo Nursing College this year.

These programs fall under the strategic vision of our ‘Gutpela Community’ Strategy 2025-2030, which complements eight of the twelve priorities in the provincial plan.
